Residents in the south of Puebla have been warned to watch out for ash fall and to not approach the volcano.

Authorities had instructed residents to stay indoors and use masks during the ash fall and limit outside exposure for children and pets.

An ash fall advisory expired at 10 a.m.

But Solidum said activity would not be as explosive as the January 2020 eruption and that ash fall could be limited to communities within the volcano, which sits in the middle of a lake.

"Going through the tsunami that night…moving from daylight to darkness, in over half an hour because of the ash fall, we recognise that's a problem," he told me in an interview for the BBC's Newsday programme.
