For Canada's centennial in 1967, in an effort to popularize the city of Nanaimo in British Columbia, Nanaimo Harbor played host to a 36-mile bathtub race.

Crowds also flock to the Wild and Wacky Raft Race in Miami, the bathtub race in San Diego and the equally exciting Hermit Crab Races in Ocean City, N.J.
