Another sustainable working part of Central Oregon Ostrich’s system is its food source because spent brewer’s grain is near perfect food for ostriches.

Farmers can pay a small fee to join this local nonprofit’s Brewer’s Grain Alliance, which enables the farmers to purchase wet brewer’s grain at a reduced cost.

“We could get a higher price for our brewer’s grain and send it out of the state, but all of our grain stays within a maximum of a 100 mile radius of Asheville,” Ampe says.
