A fatality from a bull shark attack occurred in early 2023 in a brackish river near the coast.

An Australian woman attacked by a bull shark in Sydney Harbour has thanked her "heroic" neighbours for coming to her aid.

Outside the state, a 16-year-old girl killed by a bull shark in a river in the west coast city of Perth in February was the only other fatal shark attack in Australia during 2023.
