The terrier was among at least three dogs who visited Petrovitsky Park near Renton within the last month and later tested positive for “parvo” — canine parvovirus, said Alecia Dolman, a manager at Happy Tails Animal Hospital.

These included rabies for dogs and cats, canine parvovirus and canine distemper for dogs, and feline panleukopenia and feline Bordetella for cats.

Precautions here are strict because of a recent canine parvovirus outbreak that sickened some of the puppies.

On Aug. 22, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed Michigan State University veterinarians found canine parvovirus in lab samples of a mysterious “parvo-like illness” sweeping northern parts of the state.

She said testing confirming the canine parvovirus infections in affected dogs in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula was done at the university’s lab in Lansing and facilitated by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
