Most Coleopterous or other larvæ found under bark or in solid wood can be reared only if large sections of the wood are obtained and the larvæ are full grown or nearly so.

The greatest difficulty is experienced with carnivorous Coleopterous larvæ, and care should be taken with such not to inclose two or more specimens in one box.

The few comprehensive works on Coleopterous larvæ that have been published are based on rather scant material and none of them deal with the North American fauna.

This is especially true of the Coleopterous families Curculionidæ, Trogositidæ, and Tenebrionidæ.

These birds are very sociable, going in small flocks, usually of from half a dozen to twenty individuals; they are restless and active, and quick and graceful in all their movements, and seek their food on the ground, chiefly coleopterous insects, on the great level plains they inhabit.
