Seattle provides dogs a sidewalk comfort station with trees and rocks on Third Avenue outside Westlake Station, but none for humans, unless they can find an available retail building’s restroom.

It was established by Vincent Sardi Sr., who in 1947, at the very first Tony Awards, won a special prize “for providing a transient home and comfort station for theater folk.”

The outdoor comfort station — sheathed in wood that’s painted a pleasing celadon — is not far from the entrance to the 33-acre nature preserve.

In the end, fans of the commodious “comfort station” won the debate, and excavation began.

The concessions are separate from the campground, which has a comfort station with showers and a fish cleaning station.
