Sharkey's fate was decided at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday morning by judge Mrs Justice Eady, who decided the sentencing exercise "called for compassion".

This was as a result of Christopher Fulton, 35, assaulting him in a fashion Newry Crown Court heard was "similar to a car crash" in terms of severity.

Sharkey had pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Liverpool Crown Court after medical experts concluded her mental health "substantially impaired" her ability to form a rational judgement when she killed Callum.

Williams will be sentenced for his dangerous driving charge on 9 May at Chester Crown Court.

In her victim impact statement, read out at Hull Crown Court, she said she still had panic attacks and the scars to be "reminded of what he did to me".
