The city of Los Angeles is launching a new initiative to encourage the construction of starter homes on small lots, an effort to provide relatively lower-cost for-sale housing and show how Los Angeles can densify without turning into Manhattan.
The prototype comes out of four decades of research on designing a centrifugal bioreactor to rapidly densify and expand cells, led by Chemical Engineering Professor Bernie Van Wie, Kaiphanliam's advisor and a co-author on the paper.
Densify accused Palo Alto, California-based VMware's vROps, vSphere and other software of infringing patents covering "virtualization" technology that enables multiple computer systems to run on a single server.
The verdict, made public Tuesday, said VMware willfully violated Densify's patent rights with its software for optimizing "virtual machines" used in cloud computing.
Representatives for Densify did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
