KitchenAid’s Artisan Stand Mixer comes with a 5-quart stainless steel bowl, a 3-quart stainless steel bowl, a flex edge beater, a pastry beater, a dough hook, a wire whip, a pastry scraper and a pouring shield.

Using an electric mixer, or the dough hook for a standing mixer, stir to dissolve and allow it to sit until it gets foamy, about 10 minutes.

Put bowl onto mixer, and fit with the dough hook.

Since reading that, I also tend to avoid mixing cake batter and cookie dough by hand — though I still gladly take the help from my KitchenAid mixer and dough hook when making bread.

If using a stand mixer, use a dough hook on low speed, continue to mix for 8 minutes until dough is firm and stretchy.
