The dwarf chestnut of the Middle and Southern states is decidedly ornamental in a fruit garden.

STABLER: I am very much interested in Dr. Morris' proposition to produce dwarf chestnut trees by grafting on chinquapin stocks.

First the chinquapin, a small dwarf chestnut which grows in the southern Atlantic states but reaches as far north as New Jersey and perhaps farther for all I know.

The species is merely that of a dwarf chestnut growing as a shrub instead of as a tree.
