“Look What You Made Me Do” A killer electroclash song that made it to the airwaves 15 years too late.

After dabbling in folk, rock and punk, the Canadian musician born Merrill Nisker eventually landed on electroclash, a genre that does exactly what it says on the tin.

A kind of bridge between New York’s electroclash and garage-revival scenes, Le Tigre layered fuzzy guitars and shouty vocals over chunky drum-machine beats in songs about queer visibility and institutional misogyny.

I was on the official Electroclash tour of 2001, and I had this band W.I.T. come onstage and throw cream pies at me while I sang.

With early electroclash, there were all these women like Chicks on Speed, Le Tigre, Tracy & the Plastics with the same mindset as me: “Electronics are great! Let’s not take them so seriously that we can’t have fun and we can’t inject our queerness!”
