Indian sugar mills have been renegotiating and defaulting on contracts to supply 400,000 tonnes of the sweetener to overseas buyers as prices jumped after the government cut this year's export quota, five dealers told Reuters.

"With Asian refiners set to ramp up refinery runs, with China's sizeable product export quota, and with OPEC's core producers dialing back on output, demand for U.S. crude is strong," he said.

Wheat prices rose 2.5% amid reports of a quick fulfilment of the export quota from Russia.

But the measures had a limited impact: a ban on the buckwheat exports, not a major export, and a wheat export quota of 22 million tons in 2019-20 that was in line with expected exports.

Last year, Indonesia set its export quota for tokay geckos at 25,000 animals, but this year, the figure jumped to 1.8 million for just three provinces on its island of Java.
