The Palisades fire burned several miles of trails in the Santa Monica Mountains but did not make it far west enough to harm beloved sites like Malibu Creek State Park and Sandstone Peak.

Its range from the Vandenberg base could span as far north as the North Pole, as far south as the closest point of Antarctica, as far west as the Philippines and as far east as Spain.

“People used to be obsessed with doing things as far west as possible with the idea that academy members lived in Malibu, Santa Monica and the Palisades. They still do, but they also live in Highland Park and North Hollywood and Studio City.”

However for much of England and Wales, away from the far west, the skies could remain largely clear for at least part of the night.

Local officials who are calling the city the “Amsterdam of the far West” have said that the comfort and familiarity of smoking or vaping in a restaurant setting could help the city see one of the highest numbers of cannabis businesses per capita in the world.
