It is the first and last thing on people’s minds when they meet.

The Intercity Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, conducted by Charles Dickerson III, took on the huge assignment of the first and last movements from Mahler’s Third, his longest symphony.

Nahida Sapan, who captained the side on the day, added: "We don't want this to be our first and last game. We want to play a lot, we want to achieve our dream."

It will also run a limited service between Glasgow and Preston, while the first and last trains across its services may be earlier than usual.
