Internet trolls carrying out an orchestrated campaign of intimidation and death threats have forced the shutdown of a French telephone hotline aimed at shaming men who refuse to take no for an answer.

And the US National Security Agency has monitored millions of French telephone calls, according to Le Monde.

French newspaper Le Monde reported this week that the NSA had recorded French telephone data on a huge scale between December 2012 and January this year.

The paper said on Monday that the NSA recorded 70.3 million items of French telephone data between December 10, 2012 and January 8, 2013 and collected tens of thousands of French phone records.
