The Irish police service, An Garda Síochána, has notified the local coroner and said inquiries are under way to identify the exhumed remains.

A spokesperson for the Gardai said: "An Garda Siochána does not comment on the detail of interactions with families. And Garda Siochána will continue to liaise with the family."

"An Garda Síochána and our law enforcement partners are committed to targeting those engaged in drug related organised crime that leads to harm, intimidation and violence in our communities nationwide."

An Garda Síochána said they could not comment as it was a matter for the PSNI.

"Kyran's case is subject to An Garda Síochána investigation and we need to understand what went wrong in this situation."
