This week, 45 years of strict protection for grey wolves in Europe could come to an end.

Five grey wolves have been released into Colorado's Rocky Mountains after a 2020 vote on reintroducing them into the wild.

Both assumptions appeared to be doubtful in the case of the recolonisation of Germany by the grey wolf.

"The predominant argument is that we should be feeding our pet dogs an ancestral diet, in line with what modern-day grey wolves consume," says Ms Ralph.

Zoo staff said they believe the grey wolves escaped after someone deliberately cut the fence surrounding their enclosure overnight.
