"Everybody worked thousands of hours on this to get it to sound as if you were sitting on the steps listening to this band play in the basement," said Steve Berkowitz, who with Jeff Rosen and Jan Haust produced the set for release.

Jan Haust, a Toronto-based collector, acquired the archive about 10 years ago; he worked with Dylan’s reps to find a way to put them out.

The production was overseen by Garth Hudson, the organist for the Band, and the music archivist Jan Haust.
