A derelict housing estate dubbed "Scotland's Chernobyl" for its eerie ghost-town like appearance is finally about to be razed to the ground.

They are names that bring illness and disease to mind - but a new Glasgow housing estate is to have its streets named after vaccines, radiography and viruses.

It is part of a housing estate of identical monumental blocks built during the Soviet era.

They include the superb Bird, about a young girl growing up on a tough housing estate, and Mike Leigh's terrific Hard Truths, about a woman whose depression puts severe strain on those around her.

Among the sites to have been sold is Maltby Miners Welfare Institute, which sits in the midst of a housing estate in South Yorkshire.
