The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s website said De Rothschild’s death was an accident caused by “hypertensive cardiovascular disease,” commonly know as heart disease.

The findings reflect national trends demonstrating the increasing prevalence of conditions such as obesity, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes among pregnant people of all ages, she added.

A leading cause of death among pregnant American women, more than hypertensive disorders, hemorrhage, or sepsis, is homicide.

A spokesperson for the office of the chief medical examiner in Connecticut told the PA agency he suffered from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

“If you’re hypertensive, you decrease the blood returning to your heart and your blood pressure can drop,” she added.
