When the sea once flooded low-lying areas of South Asia, these dolphins moved inland - and when the waters receded, they stayed.

Authorities believe the wildfires started by accident from human activity, but the main drivers of the devastation are dry land, and strong gusts sweeping over inland regions.

But temperatures tend to rise earlier in inland areas than along the coast, which means mosquito activity in the Palisades likely won’t increase until later in the season.

So far, inland Northern California and Central California saw roughly fivefold increases in acreage in these zones for local responsibility areas.

“Regardless of records, unseasonably warm temperatures may affect heat-sensitive populations for all inland areas,” the weather service’s San Diego office said on X.
