Each November, tens of thousands of people travel to the city for Nagar Kirtan, one of the largest Sikh gatherings in the U.S.

The shooting happened during a celebration of Nagar Kirtan, a religious observance, that began around 9 a.m. and drew large crowds to the temple for a parade and other festivities throughout the day.

He left that job to take up bus driving, but remained active in the gurudwara singing kirtan, the sacred music that is part of a Sikh prayer meeting.

The procession, known as Nagar Kirtan, drew about 10,000 people to take part as they celebrated the festival of Vaisakhi, organisers said.

Such creative choices had already been available to her at the time, and as an artist with her pedigree, she knew what she would sacrifice by adding these other elements vs. keeping the basic tracks thatcompose the entirety of “Kirtan.”
