The Androscoggin mill employs about 500 people and currently produces flexible packaging papers, release liner base, specialty labels, kraft paper and linerboard.

With the additional investment, the mill will convert a line making uncoated freesheet, or copy paper, to linerboard and containerboard.

The initial conversion would have allowed the mill to produce high quality whitetop linerboard and containerboard, adding 450,000 tons of annual capacity.

The Sun Bio Products plant will produce linerboard, which is one of the types of paper that make up corrugated board.

Since Smurfit-Stone closed the linerboard plant in January 2010, several accidents and fires associated with its demolition have been reported.
