Data from the county’s Homeless Management Information System shows about 5% of people receiving homelessness services are Native.

As the Times reported, King County’s Homeless Management Information System recorded that nearly 80% of people seeking homelessness services in 2022 reported that their last stable place to live was in Washington state.

Martens said the authority encouraged the coalition to track their hotel guests using the federal database that accounts for everyone who encounters the homeless system, called Homeless Management Information System, but that the coalition refused.

The county’s Homeless Management Information System, which is used to collect data on every person who stays a night in shelter, meets with a case worker and more, recorded that nearly 80% of people seeking homelessness services in 2022, like shelter or housing, said the last location they had a stable place to live was in Washington state and 12.3% reported that their last stable home was out of state.

That includes being screened by the King County Sheriff’s Office for sex-offense convictions that would make it illegal for the person to live there, and through other databases like the federal Homeless Management Information System.
