Microfluidic technology has become increasingly important in many scientific fields such as regenerative medicine, microelectronics, and environmental science.

The company currently operates a microelectronics foundry at the park and has multiple civil and defense space programs throughout the South Bay, including spacecraft manufacturing, space instrument design and orbiting space platforms.

“Taiwan doesn’t have many natural resources,” Morris Ker, the chair of the newly created microelectronics department at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University told the students.

“Machine tools and microelectronics come from China and go direct to strengthening the defence industries, so they churn out more tanks and missiles.”

He was studying the emerging field of microelectronics, which used silicon-based transistors to store digital bits of information.
