Many years later, Mr Wrench was listening to The Banksy Story podcast, and this prompted him to recover the full interview on a minidisc in his house.

The three friends — Jacob Hemphill, Bobby Lee and Ryan Berty — decided they’d form their own band and named it SOJA, for Soldiers of Jah Army, and it was the kind of thing you’d expect from teens in the ’90s: practicing in their parents’ garages and basements, recording themselves on digital audio tape or minidisc.

Mr. Opsvik recorded some on his personal minidisc player, placed near the stage; others come from high-quality board mixes at major venues.

Plenty of iPods, Sony Walkmans and hi-fis are still in good working order, along with the occasional Minidisc player and one 1960s HMV record player.

I still have some that I’d love to create or model, like colorful CD or MiniDisc players.
