South Africa’s unrest first flared at the Mooi River toll gate for the N3 highway where more than 20 trucks were burned.

At Mooi River, near Pietermaritzburg, about 20 trucks were stopped and set on fire early Saturday, according to witnesses.

He said protesters had set alight some trucks near Mooi River, a town on the N3 highway that leads from Durban to Johannesburg, and shops had been looted in Mooi River and eThekwini, the municipality that includes Durban.

Mooi said he viewed Cash as another younger brother.

Mr. Mooi said that the A.N.C., and officials like Ms. Maseko, are controlling food distribution to “reward some people who voted for them, and punish others.”
