They received a boost on Thursday night, winning a by-election in Cwmllynfell and Ystalyfera on Neath Port Talbot Council, ahead of Plaid Cymru, Reform and Labour.

Bethan, 20, from Pontardawe in Neath Port Talbot, was 17 and just beginning sixth-form when she caught Covid in 2021.

The local authority area will receive £11.49m, with Neath Port Talbot getting £6.34m,

"These tips are a visible symbol of how coal mining shaped the valleys but many years later, the tips are still causing issues around safety and pollution which have to be addressed urgently," said Neath Port Talbot council leader Steve Hunt.
