In the prestigious best drama category, crime dramas Blue Lights and Sherwood will take on superhero series Supacell and acclaimed period drama Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light.

The director of acclaimed period drama Wolf Hall has revealed filming of last year's second series was nearly called off weeks before it was due to begin because of budget pressures, with British TV facing a "genuinely existential crisis" in funding.

The writer and producer was appearing on the show to promote his new Disney+ period drama, A Thousand Blows, starring Stephen Graham.
