Bee was built using age-old clinker planking techniques for a co-operative of crofters from Stroma which sits between Orkney and the mainland.

This means the site, which includes planking, frames, fixtures and fittings, can be dived on but should remain untouched.

The researchers dug three shallow trenches at the site and unearthed wood fragments and iron planking rivets that were thought to have once been part of a ship.
