A self-proclaimed history buff, he has served on the Lidgerwood Museum Board for about 20 years, helped write the Lidgerwood Centennial Book, served on the quasquicentennial committee, is a founding member of the Sons of the American Legion, continues to serve on the All-School Reunion board, served on the Lidgerwood School Board for 15 years, and is a volunteer senior health insurance counselor.

The band played for the Klemme Quasquicentennial celebration and marched in the Clear Lake July 4th parade.
