David Gulpilil, the Aborigine actor and dancer who starred in acclaimed 1970s films “Walkabout” and “Storm Boy” and later had featured roles in “Crocodile Dundee,” “Rabbit-Proof Fence” and Baz Luhrmann’s epic “Australia,” died Nov. 29 in Murray Bridge, southeast of Adelaide.

She was a regular at the festival but was best known for acclaimed performances in films including Rabbit-Proof Fence.

Among the titles leaving at the end of January are Oliver Stone’s “Nixon” with Anthony Hopkins; French romantic comedy “Amélie”; “Rabbit-Proof Fence” from Australia; campy sci-fi romp “Barbarella,” starring Jane Fonda; and animated films “Brother Bear” and “Treasure Planet.”

Older films rotating back through the library include the Kevin Costner Western “Open Range”; Australian dramas “The Quiet American” and “Rabbit-Proof Fence”; comedy classic “Airplane!”

Phillip Noyce, whose better films include Dead Calm, Rabbit-Proof Fence and Salt, exploits a nice gimmick rooted in the story’s mythos.
