Dr Carolina Grandellis, a biofoundry manager at the Earlham Institute research park in Norwich, added that it was hard to replenish the brain drain by attracting scientists from overseas because of a tightening of the visa system by both the previous and current government.

The shopping center was being converted to offices when the UC Regents bought it for $700 million in January to create the research park.

At 360,000 square feet, the institute will be the research park’s primary tenant.

Now under construction at Fontaine Research Park, the institute is poised to accelerate the development of new treatments and cures for a wide variety of diseases, ultimately transforming how healthcare is delivered across Virginia and beyond.
