Council leader Ray Morgon from the Havering Residents Association party says libraries have had to close because of spiralling costs.

There were 17 objections, including one from Jesmond Residents Association, raising issues such as an "overconcentration of HMOs leading to anti-social behaviour" and the "loss of a spacious family home close to a good school".

The residents are also paying three times what they should for water because of leaks, according to residents' association chairman Ken Pierce, 84.

The head of a local residents' association told the BBC on Wednesday he and "the overwhelming majority" of locals supported taking down the tower.
