Maki Onuki, who joined the Washington Ballet in 2004, performed in a previous production of “Swan Lake” in 2015 when Septime Webre was company director.

The Washington Ballet, however, is keeping to tradition, with children as young as 6 in its Washington-themed “Nutcracker,” created by the company’s former director, Septime Webre.
