Viagra, known generically as sildenafil citrate, was patented by the drugmaker Pfizer in the 1990s and was initially used as a treatment for chest pain related to the heart.

Pfizer was developing a chemical compound called sildenafil citrate for high blood pressure.

It was only because the marketing people didn’t like it for that product that it was returned to the name bank ready for its adoption by sildenafil citrate.

After years of behind-the-scenes preparation, the company last week received the state production license that will allow it to start churning out sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra.

The new research, published in the journal Human Reproduction, reports that the main ingredient in Viagra, called sildenafil citrate, can alleviate moderate to severe menstrual cramps in women.
