“Among the Planets” is a flat plane of slate gray color interrupted by large, grayish-brown arcs at top and bottom.

The color palette recalled a rainy day on the highlands: moss, brown, slate gray and maroon, cornflower blue, mustard.

The plants had grown in the windows, and one of the black cats had had a litter, and the wallpaper had changed from slate gray to haint blue.

When the moment arrived around midday, the expectant swarm of visitors on the town’s beach watched as bands of palest aquamarine and deep slate gray passed across the sea.

It was a collage of painted planks representing every shade of Southern California weather, cloudy white and misty blue next to rainy-day slate gray and the deep cerulean of midsummer.
