Ecuadoran Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld said her country would defend its actions and said an apology “is not something that is under discussion at this moment.”

On Saturday, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld defended the operation to arrest former Vice President Jorge Glas, a convicted criminal and fugitive who had been living at the embassy in Quito, the capital, since December.

Sommerfeld told reporters Noboa’s decision came after considering Glas’ “imminent flight risk” and exhausting all possibilities for diplomatic dialogue with Mexico.
