The ancient designation Sudra finds no great favour in modern times, and we can point to no group that is generally recognized as representing it.

They are lower than the lowest Sudra, and yet they will treat a twice-born Brahman like a dog.

Some modern enquirers have attached very great importance to the undoubtedly wide and remarkable separation of the fourth or menial caste of Sudras from the three upper castes.

Is there any caste lower than the Sudras?

It is regarded by them as one of the ten sankars, or sacraments, necessary for the regeneration of men of the twice-born classes, and the only sacrament for women and Sudras.
