The Tensegrity stand — named after the structural principle — is a spindly, industrial-meets-mid-century tripod that’s made of aluminum tubes and stainless-steel cables.

Around the midsection, a series of overlapping flexible panels can move to expand its circumference when it needs to grow, using a concept called “tensegrity” in which tension between components creates stability.
