thermal conductance
- A measure of the ability of a material to transfer heat per unit time, given one unit area of the material and a temperature gradient through the thickness of the material. It is measured in watts per meter per degree Kelvin.
Example Sentences
They also offered a 1,300% tunability in thermal conductance and reliable performance for more than 1 million switching cycles.
Mechanical engineers prefer definitions of thermal conductance and thermal conductivity; these define the rate of heat transfer that can be achieved through a material for a given temperature gradient.
Both Banerjee et al. and Kasahara et al. observed this fraction of thermal conductance on the edges of their condensed-matter systems.
Each electron mode contributes a unit of thermal conductance, and, crucially, each Majorana mode contributes only half a unit.
It relies on counting both fractional and integer contributions to the system’s thermal conductance, which, in turn, requires certain assumptions to be made about the process by which different propagating modes reach thermal equilibrium10.
