In the central Sierra Nevada, a winter weather advisory is in effect until 11 p.m. for the region that includes Yosemite National Park warning of heavy snow and strong winds that could make travel “very difficult to impossible.”

In Southern California, the weather service issued a winter weather advisory for Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties’ mountain ranges.

In Northern California, the weather service issued a winter weather advisory for the Lake Tahoe area warning of snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches at elevations below 7,000 feet and 6 to 12 inches at higher elevations between 4 a.m.

Another 170 million people from the Rockies to points eastward were under an extreme weather warning or cold weather advisory.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in these areas until 10 p.m.
